After the 2008 Beijing Olympics, this was the first time the Indian badminton team is returning empty-handed. All roads lead to Lakshya Sen on Monday before his bronze-medal match against the world's seventh-ranked Malaysian Zii Jia Lee.
But despite a spirited show with injured forehand, Lakshya finally failed to fulfill his desire as well as the hope of India’s sports fraternity, losing to Zii Jia by 1-2 sets in Paris. The game scores in favor of Lee were 13-21, 21-16 and 21-11. Lakshya had to play with an injury on his right arm. After winning the first game he was seen taking medical time-out in the second and final game.
Still, Lakshya’s performance will be remembered as in his debut in the Olympics the 22-year-old shuttle player from Almora became the country's first male player to have reached the semi-final in the Olympics.
