Indian economy accumulated USD 1.39 billion (Rs 11,637 crore) in 2023, thanks to the ICC Men's ODI World Cup. The report has been published by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Last year the World Cup tournament was held in 10 cities of India from October 5 to November 19, 2023. The cities where the matches were held including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune were significantly influenced by tourism. Just the tourism with accommodation, travel, and food services contributed to USD 861.4 million. 

India had earned significantly from the International tourists during this period. There were almost 19% of spectators who visited India for the first time. Reported, that amongst those international visitors, who came to India 68% of tourists suggested India as a tourist spot jointly accumulating USD 281.2 million. 

From the Media exposure, the state accumulated USD 70.7 million. 

A record 1.25 million spectators attended the matches, with nearly 75% being first-time viewers of an ICC Men's ODI World Cup.

The event generated over 48,000 jobs in hospitality and event management, contributing an extra USD 18 million to the nation's economy. The total impact across India was valued at USD 253.9 million, excluding a few host cities. 

Geoff Allardice, the ICC chief executive stated - “The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has demonstrated the significant economic power of cricket, generating economic benefit of USD 1.39 billion for India. The event created thousands of jobs and showcased India as a premier tourist destination.”

The vastness and successful hosting of major global sporting events have added to the positive implication for the country’s economy, which might have long-term benefits.
