Losing Three Tosses, to Richa’s Bravery Leads the Way for India’s Win; Says the Captain

Richa Ghosh put on a power show for the team, smashing an 18-ball fifty, equalling the record for the fastest half-century in women’s T20Is, during the third match against West Indies in Navi Mumbai.

A five-year wait to clinch a T20I series at home couldn’t shake the resolve of Mandhana and her team. The stand-in skipper inspired her teammates, and they responded with a dominant performance, sealing the three-match series with a 2-1 victory. This marks India’s first home series win since 2019, a testament to their determination and team spirit.

While talking about the motivational speech towards the team, Mandhana stated, "After the last match, I told the girls it has been five years that we have not won a T20I series. That does not reflect the team we are. I told them that today we have an opportunity to do that, and we just want to keep doing the right things".

Mandhana continued her red-hot form with a third consecutive fifty, building on her impressive ODI series performance Down Under, where she scored a century in the final match.

“The batting line-up we had, there were a few youngsters coming in, so there was a bit of added responsibility, and that kind of thing goes well if you really put your head into it, and when I do that, I probably bat better."

"We lost all three tosses, so we had to bat first, and that is the harder thing to do (here). Really happy we could put up (a score) and loved the way Richa batted." In the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur, she said, "Harman has been a pillar in the middle order." Whenever she is there, you know that if something happens, she will be there.”

On the other hand, Richa Ghosh put on a power show for the team, smashing an 18-ball fifty, equalling the record for the fastest half-century in women’s T20Is, during the third match against West Indies in Navi Mumbai. Her blistering knock, alongside Smriti Mandhana’s half-century, powered India to a record total of 217/4, surpassing their previous best of 201/5 against UAE at the 2024 Asia Cup.

The player of the match, while talking about the match, stated, The girls stepped up beautifully. The way Raghvi batted was impressive. She came in with lots of intent, and hitting her fourth or fifth ball for six, I would not have been able to do that in my second match."

While talking about it, she stated, “We got a good start, the way everyone batted. I just wanted to continue that, and whenever the ball was in my slot, I tried to hit it”.
