Once coached by former India junior chief coach Sanjay Mishra, Malavika stole the limelight in 2022 when she stunned 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist Saina Nehwal in the India Open to place her into the world's top 30.

She was the only ray of hope in the ongoing China Open from India as her compatriots Aakarshi Kashyap and Samiya Imad Farooqui crashed out of the competition in the first round.
