The remarkable team, Manchester City now confront a significant challenge of erasing their name from the charges of financial misconduct. 

A crucial hearing is set to take place on Monday. This hearing can determine the club's fate against 115 charges that were brought upon Man City almost 19 months prior. 

This case is dubbed as “trial of the century” in British Sports. The evidence will be examined for at least two months by an independent panel and set to disclose the final verdict in 2025. 

Since United Arab Emirates royal family member, Sheikh Mansour took over Manchester City in 2008, the team changed their performance remarkably. They did wonders in the past 13 seasons, securing a significant number of 8 league titles of the 10 leagues. 

 Also, City clinched the first Champions League trophy in 2023. 

However, the suspension regarding the integrity of the team's success, arose when German outlet Der Spiegel leaked documents in 2018. The Emails suggested top executives inflated sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways and Etisalat, disguising direct investments from Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group as legitimate revenue. 

Additional documents point to off-the-books payments to former manager Roberto Mancini through consultancy fees.  

City strongly denied all these accusations citing a “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence”. 

Previously, City had defended itself with a two-year Champions League ban imposed upon them at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). CAS ruled that many of the sponsorship inflations were either unproven or fell outside the statute of limitations.

Manchester City will be under scrutiny once again as the Premier League investigation has no time limit like the UEFA case.
