Manika Batra scripts history as she reached last 8 in singles

The final result was 11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6 in Batra's favour.

Manika Batra became the first Indian to achieve Singles Quarters berth at the Hangzhou Asian Games after two initial 16 Round elimination.

 She beat Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut by 4-2 (11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6) in her round of 16 match-up on Friday.

The score was a 2-2 tie after a fierce first four sets. However, Manika, a 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and a bronze winner in mixed doubles at the Jakarta Asian Games, showed off her composure and skill and advanced by winning the latter two sets.

After losing the first game to Manika, Suthasini fought back in the second game and took it to draw level. Batra though soon regained her lead, and claimed the third game. But Suthasini persistently levelled the distance again in the fourth game, forcing the decider. Batra took the last game in the bag and advanced to the quarterfinals winning the match 4-2. 

She will be playing Wang Yidi for a spot in the final four and an assured medal.
