Manu Bhaker wins bronze in ISSF Word Cup after a gap of two years

This is the first medal in the ongoing World Cup for Bhaker.

Olympian shooter Manu Bhaker finally after a gap of two years of her last senior World Cup medal, clinched the 25m pistol bronze medal in the ISSF Pistol/Rifle World Cup at the M.P. State Shooting Academy range on Saturday to take India’s medal tally to seven, including a gold. Bhaker, who couldn't make the final in 10m air pistol, was in much better form in the 25m range, finishing behind Germany's Doreen Vennekamp (594 pts) and China's Du Ziyue (584) in the qualification round. She also aggregated 584, but with fewer 10s than Du. The 21-year-old made it to the medal match with 14 hits out of a possible 20 in the ranking match. Esha Singh, the other Indian in the field, missed the cut with 11 hits.

Bhaker, the multiple World Cup medal winner had shot 290 in the precision round on Friday and entered second of the competition well placed for the rapid round. This is the first medal in the ongoing World Cup for Bhaker, who had failed to impress in her favourite event, air pistol, on the opening day of the competition, finishing 16th with 568 points.

In the rapid round on Saturday, she again shot three superb series of 98, 99 and 97 to aggregate 294 and advance to the ranking round placed third.
