Manu is Her Inspiration says Avani

Avani Lekhara made history in the Tokyo Paralympics, in 2020 and became the first Indian woman to ever win two medals in one Paralympics. She secured a gold medal in the 10m air rifle and a bronze medal in 50m rifle shooting.

 The nation's limelight and hope now have shifted to another Indian woman shooter Avani Lekhara after Manu Bhaker.  Both Olympians began their Olympic journey in Tokyo.

Before the Paris Paralympics, Avani disclosed her admiration for Manu, speaking about how Manu has boosted her confidence with her performance. In an interview with SAI Media, she stated "I am proud that we are both shooters. When I won two medals in Tokyo, it marked a new awakening for women in Indian sports. A barrier was broken. Manu did the same, and I hope more such barriers will be broken in the future.”

Avani Lekhara, the shooter, is ready to head out to the Paris Paralympic. She is scheduled to compete in three events in this Paralympics. After another pistol shooter, Manu Bhaker made history with her exceptional two bronze medal-winning performances in the Paris Olympics 2024.

Avani Lekhara made history in the Tokyo Paralympics, in 2020 and became the first Indian woman to ever win two medals in one Paralympics. She secured a gold medal in the 10m air rifle and a bronze medal in 50m rifle shooting. She was eligible for the SH1 category, for the participants having lower limb impairments like amputations or paraplegia. They can shoot while standing or in a sitting position. 

The young shooter talked about the encouragement she got from the Union Sports Ministry's Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). She further said that she is confident with her form. Avani is focusing on her practice and also fostering her passion for becoming a part of the Indian Judiciary System as she has finished her BA LLB.
