Martinez Accused of Slapping Cameraman After Defeat in World Cup Qualifier

Colombia defeated Argentina by 1-2 in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.

Jhonny Jackson, a cameraman for Caracol Televisión and RCN Deportes raised allegations against Emiliano Martínez, that the Argentine goalkeeper of slapping him after the defeat.  Colombia defeated Argentina by 1-2 in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday. 

The cameraman claimed that the fateful incident took place when he was filming the goalkeeper after the match in Barranquilla on Tuesday. 

The footage of this slap became an online sensation. It showed the cameraperson following Martinez, who was greeting other players when his hit impacted shaking of the camera and eventually fell. 

Infuriated with this behaviour Jackson stated to RCN Deportes, - "Out of the blue, he slapped me. I felt angry, very angry. I was working, just like he was.”

However, Jackson consoled the player for his loss and also sent him A conciliatory note saying - Dibu, my brother, how are you? I am Jhonny Jackson, the cameraman you assaulted. I wanted to tell you it is all good. Everyone has lost a match in their life. This defeat clearly meant a lot to you."

Although Colombia's Association of Sports Journalists (ACORD) is not taking the case lightly, they have appealed to FIFA to take deserved action against Martínez. The president of ACORD, Faiver Hoyos Hernández urged FIFA to take "exemplary sanction” against Martinez. 

CONMEBOL, the South American football governing body or Matinez is yet to make any comment regarding this incident.
