Mary Kom plays football in a Bhaichung-initiated charity match for ‘Teesta victims’

Along with Bhaichung and Mary Kom, ace Indian hockey star, and former Olympian Dhanraj Pillay also took part in the match.

Five-time World Champion and Olympics bronze medal winner boxer Mary Kom participated in a six-a-side football match initiated and organized by former Indian skipper and ace striker Bhaichng Bhutia on the Astroturf ground in Siliguri on Wednesday. Along with Bhaichung and Mary Kom, ace Indian hockey star, and former Olympian Dhanraj Pilley also took part in the match. The ground named Goat Arena has been built up on the roof of a three-storied building and it is generally used to play futsal. 

The match was initiated and organized to gather funds for the victims of the recent Sikkim flash floods that happened last week wreaked havoc and affected nearly 25 thousand people in the state.

Rs 2.5 lakh has been raised from the charity match and it was handed over to 'The Association of Conversation & Tourism'. 

Mary however expressed delight and said, “I played football almost 15 years. It was for a great cause. I feel more people should come forward to stand beside the victims.”
