The disruption of privacy through social media is a well-known issue in today’s digital age. However, the incident involving football star Álvaro Morata, while humorous to some, raises important concerns.

Morata, like many other public figures, dreamt of privacy and peaceful life, in the countryside of Milan. However, in a surprising turn of events, Corbetta’s mayor, Marco Ballarini, turned out to be an avid fan of Morata and enthusiastically welcomed him by sharing his excitement on Instagram. 

“No, it’s not an early April Fool’s Day. The champion Álvaro Morata is our new Corbetta resident,” - Ballarini announced on Thursday, expressing his excitement.

The Spanish star, who recently bought a house on the outskirts of Corbetta, a northern Italian town, likely seeking peace and privacy with his family away from the public eye. However, Ballarini’s post clearly angered Morata, prompting him to call out the mayor in an Instagram story, accusing him of “violating my privacy,” as fans began searching for his home.

Morata in a recent interview with Reuters claimed - “Fortunately, I do not own any valuable property. My only treasure is my children, whose safety you have endangered,”. 

“I thought the municipality of Corbetta could guarantee me a certain level of privacy but instead I find myself having to move house immediately due to your inability to use social media and protect your citizens.”. 

This serves as a reminder that even seemingly lighthearted or funny invasions of privacy can have serious implications.
