Before the upcoming winter transfer window, Mohun Bagan Super Giants is trying to rope in an ace defender. He is Alex Saji. 

Despite holding second place in the ISL standings, MBSg faces a significant challenge. Various concerns have emerged over the Mariners' underperforming defense. 

Previously, MBSG had lost Anwar Ali. Now to fill up the vacuum left by him, the management has set their sights on the Hyderabad FC defender Alex Saji. 

The 24-year-old defender delivered stellar performances in the last ISL season for Hyderabad FC. Despite the team's overall underperformance, Saji's consistency and skill drew the attention of several managers.

Initially, East Bengal seemed confident about signing Alex Saji. However, the situation has shifted in recent days, with Mohun Bagan Super Giant entering the race to secure the defender. Reports suggest that the Green and Maroon camp is eager to offer Alex a long-term deal. Although Mohun Bagan proposed a three-year contract, Hyderabad FC managed to retain the player.

Mohun Bagan, however, is not ready to give up so easily. The club is preparing to offer a huge sum to bring Alex Saji into their squad during the upcoming winter transfer window. Initial discussions have reportedly begun, and if everything falls into place, the defender could join the Green and Maroon camp as early as January next year.
