MBSG starts its Durand Cup campaign in style

Bangladesh Army XI had to play with 10 men as their Minhazur Rahaman was sent off following a rough foul in the second half.

Mohun Bagan Super Giants started their campaign in the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup in style, rolling over Bangladesh Army XI to ensure a 5-0 win on Thursday at Salt Lake Stadium. The green-and-maroon brigade took the lead of three goals in the first 45 minutes. Making it almost a one-sided affair the green-and-maroon brigade increased the number of goals after the lemon break. 

Under the captaincy of Sumit Rathi, Bagan put their youth footballers mostly in the team who have been taking part in the ongoing CFL Premier Division. Only Liston Colaco and Kiyan Nasiri from the probable for the AFC Cup and ISL were added to the list on the day.

Liston scored twice, and Manvir, Suhail Bhat, and Kiyan Nasiri scored for the winners. 

The tournament was inaugurated by state chief minister Mamata Banerjee. She was assisted by sports minister Arup Biswas.
