‘Mehrajuddin’s contribution cannot be ignored, Andrey maintains the same spirit and philosophy: Saheed Ramon

David Lalhlansanga scored his 20th goal from the spot-kick in the 97th minute to help the team accumulate 41 points in 16 matches so far.

He has been with Mohammedan Sporting for three full seasons since 2019. Before returning to Mohammedan Sporting in 2023 he only left the team in 2022-23, joining Kerala United and his guidance guided Kerala United to win the state league.

He is Saheed Sunkanmi Ramon, the Nigerian coach who has been presently working as an assistant to the team's Russian coach Andrew Chernyshov.

Mohammedan Sporting, on the way to achieve hat-trick by winning the ongoing CFL Premier League title, took another step closure to the title with a 2-0 triumph against Diamond Harbour FC in their crucial CFL Super-Six match at the Kishore Bharati Stadium on Tuesday. Angousana Luwang broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, jabbing a Samuel floater from the right with precision and David Lalhlansanga scored his 20th goal from the spot-kick in the 97th minute to help the team accumulate 41 points in 16 matches so faar while Diamond Harbor FC is stuck to 32 points in their 14th match so far.

Ramon who will be completing his A-license coaching course this year and also has a degree in sports psychology as well as an AFC Physical education degree was asked about the key reasons behind the team's success.

The 37-year-old coach explained, "Firstly, Mehrajuddin Wadoo's contribution cannot be ignored. He laid the foundation by composing a team that mostly consist of promising youngsters. Secondly, the exceptional dressing-room atmosphere played an important role where coaches and all the footballers felt it was a family. After Mehrajuddin's departure, I took over the team, and then Andrew joined. Even during this phase, the intensity of the atmosphere improved. We were able to inject the 'belief' among the footballers that they are the best. None of them is neglected anyway. You can bring out the best of the footballers if you give them ‘value’. The teamwork is built up. The third important factor behind our consistency was the philosophy of our game. Mehrajuddin had a style. I had a different style and Andrew had another style of coaching although he accepted my style of coaching. But the philosophy has been the same that the boys always have been instructed and taught to exhibit attacking brand of football but without trying to dish out traditional 'long-ball' style of play." Ramon did not forget to mention the name of Dipendu Biswas aying, “being a former India international and presently the football secretary he also played important role in motivating the players always.”

Commenting on Mohammedan Sporting's chances in the upcoming I-league, Ramon explained, "Andrew also has the belief and trust on the footballers and he also teaches attacking brand of football. If the boys can maintain the spirit as they showed in the CFL then we have surely a chance of winning the I-League this season."

If Andrew plays attacking football,it will be helpful, bcoz i presume he is more defensive minded coach.Hope he too learn the lesson from the last season as MSC missed the crown by a whisker..
