Men and Women clinch gold medals in National Games Table Tennis; Mouma’s gift for her daughter will be the ‘prize doll’!

Bengal with these two gold medals are now at 13th spot with 30 medals including 11 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze medals so far.

She helped Bengal win the women's table tennis team gold medal at the National Games in Gujarat in 2022 defeating 19-year-old Diya Chitale of Maharashtra in five sets. She was 38 at that time! 

Mouma again helped Bengal women to clinch the gold medal in the ongoing National Games in Uttarakhand on Monday. This time, she did not play the finals against fancied Maharashtra but her cheers and encouragement played a crucial role in guiding Sutirtha Mukherjee, Poymantee Baisya, and Ayhika Mukherjee to finish with a convincing 3-0 scoreline to clinch the gold medal.

Mouma who has won uncountable medals in the National Championships and National Games speaking over the phone from Dehradun after the match smiled and said, “My daughter said she likes the doll, given with the medals in the prize distributions. I am happy that I will take that for my daughter.”

She added, “The matches were not easy as Maharashtra is always a tough side. But Sutirtha had a pefect start. Poymatee playing in the all-important third match dished out superb show which inspired Ayhika to seal opposition’s fate.”

Mouma, now 40, will be participating in the women’s doubles event in the tournament. Meanwhile, Bengal's men's team also drubbed Maharashtra 3-0 to win the gold medal.
