Lionel Messi revealed that participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup isn't his primary focus, emphasising that his priority now is staying happy and healthy.
Although the 37-year-old hasn't ruled out competing in the next World Cup, he made it clear that he has other goals in mind. He shared these thoughts after receiving the America Legend award from the Spanish media outlet MARCA.
ESPN reported - “When I get to do what I love, I am happy. I value that more than reaching the 2026 tournament. I haven’t set a goal to reach the World Cup, but more so to live day-to-day and be well.”

While talking about his future at the MARCA event, Messi stated, - “At the moment, we will see. I don’t like to accelerate time or look ahead. I try to enjoy every day. I hope I can keep playing at this level to feel good and be happy.”
Lionel Messi also talked about his move to the USA from Europe. “The step I took to come here didn’t mean retiring,” Messi stated.
“We came here to try and keep making this team big, to help the development by winning titles, which we have and we’re close to clinching role.”
Even after leaving Europe, Lionel Messi remains one of the world's top players. He recently dazzled for Argentina, netting his 58th career hat-trick. Messi also guided Inter Miami to the MLS Supporters' Shield this season with a decisive performance against Columbus FC.
