MFF has also launched five football teams in the five divisions of Kolkata football league including a team in nursery league (under-14) as well as a women's team.
Matua Football Foundation is trying to promote footballers in their community seriously and professionally. They not only introduced a residential football training center in Bagula, Nadia district a couple of years ago, MFF has also launched five football teams in the five divisions of Kolkata football league including a team in nursery league (under-14) as well as a women's team. Including girls and boys, MFF is nurturing almost 150 footballers in their infrastructure built at Kalipada Thakur Football Academy (KTFA) in Bagula. Recently, Premanshu Thakur and Bishal Sutradhar from MFF have made a break through, being selected to train at Spanish team CF Motril for two weeks in September along with four other boys from Bengal.
MFF president Tusharkanti Biswas said on the issue, “We could not imagine that these two boys would be able to get into the selected six. We initially thought of developing young promising footballers by setting up more academies in the districts of Bengal. We were in a mission of producing footballers who could represent state, country in future. Our philosophy was develop a perfect youth society through sport, especially football. But now after these two boys' success, a new agenda in our mission is added. That is to create opportunity of advanced training for our promising young boys. There are several influential and rich people around the world who are of our community. We can try to take their help, associate with any advanced football academy abroad and send our boys. It will take some more years as we need financial strength to materialize this plan. Unless our senior team earn prominence in near future, it might be difficult for us to accumulate fund.”
Gautam Thakur, the chief coach andalso one of the founder members of MFF also agreed to the president's explanation saying, “ Premanshu and Vishal's selection is inspiring us a lot. In future we also can think of associating us with any top football academy abroad and send boys. But we need fund and our senior team that is participating in the 1st Division Kolkata Football League this year, need to earn prominence.”
The under-18 boys who were champions in the Kolkata 5th Division league last year were already invited to participate in exhibition matches in Bangladesh where Motua community people are in large numbers.
Thakur revealed, “We failed to go to Bangladesh last year. This year after the Kolkata football league ends, we might go there and take part in some matches.”
Presently, the expenses to nourish the footballers which cost nearly Rs 10 lakhs yearly, comes from the donation made by the influential and rich people of the community. Gautam said, "The amount, made of the donation from our community people does not cover the expense. We spend from our pockets to make up for the deficiency. But I believe once we are promoted to Premier League and participate in the matches against East Bengal and Mohun Bagan then the team will get a better amount of money through sponsorship."
