Mirinchui Vashum, the new sensation from Manipur is the son of former EB midfielder

Mirinchui struck the winner, helping his district Ukhrul clinch the Major bob khathing baby league title.

He used to often kick the ball at home when he was only four years old. He might have inherited his passion for football at such an early age from his parents especially, from his father who once donned shirts of East Bengal, Churchill Brothers, and India.

Mirinchui Vashum

He is Mirinchui Vashum, the eight-year-old elder son of Reisangmei Vashum. The former East Bengal midfielder has two sons. Mirinchui is the elder one and Yirreising the younger one is also playing football. Yirreising is now six years old.

Mirinchui, the fifth standard student of Mikina Home School recently stole the searchlight of local media as well as the football fraternity of Manipur through his consistent performance in the recently-held Major bob khathing baby league. Mirinchui struck the winner, helping his district Ukhrul clinch the Golden Baby League for the first time.

Yirreising, brother of Mirinchui Vashum

Vashum speaking to Parallel Sports from Ukhrul said, "The top officials from State Youth Affairs and Sports were impressed after watching Miriunchui and his teammates. They presented uniforms. My childhood coach Maniratan Singh had also praise for Mirinchui. The former greats from Manipur like Rennedy Singh, and Gourmangi Singh also applauded Mirinchui."

The more interesting part of the news is that RoundGlass Punjab, the I-League champion in 2023, came to Ukhrul when they were scouting for talented footballers. Their Indian coach as well as a few other officials expressed the desire to take Mirinchui in the future to their academy. Vashum said, "I do not have any objection if my son is scouted and taken by any Indian club for its academy.

Significantly, according to Vashum who is now working as one of the mentors under Khelo India district development programs in his district, the principal of Mikina Home School is showing noticeable interest in building up a school team also. Vashum described, "The school did not have much interest in encouraging the kids to play the game as it concentrates on the students' study. But after the Golden baby League, the principal is inspired and has already asked me to scout talented kids and start training them to build up a team and participate in the school football competitions

Ukhrul Football Academy

Mirinchui, along with his brother Yirreising now trains at Ukhrul Football Academy which was initiated by Vashum. Even when the kid does not go to the ground for training, does skill training in an empty room under the supervision of his father. Vashum said, "He has to do a lot of hard work and he should never be complacent. But the only advantageous point is that he is passionate about the game. He never gets content."
