Mohammedan Sporting missed the quarterfinal ticket by a goal

Their failure in qualification helped Mohun Bagan to ensure berth in the last-eight stage.

Mohammedan Sporting missed the qualification for the quarterfinal in the ongoing Durand Cup by a whisker. Despite having destroyed Jamshedpur FC 6-0 in their crucial group league match at Kishore Bharati Stadium on Sunday, the team failed to qualify for the quarterfinal stage as they needed to win the match 7-0. Their failure in qualification helped Mohun Bagan to ensure berth in the last-eight stage.

David, the striker from Mizoram who has been in form since the beginning of the team's journey in the CFL Premier Division this season, scored four goals including the hat-trick and Remsanga scored the remaining two for the winners.

Former Indian footballer and club football secretary Dipendu Biswas regretted, "The team dished out superbly, making it a one-sided affair. Still, we could not qualify. Our two punches rebounded off the posts."

However, Dipendu, having watched the team's performance sounded optimistic about the team's performance in the I-league this season. He stated, "The foreigners are gradually settling. The reflection was seen on the ground today. I am quite optimistic about the team's performance in the I-league."
