One of the top executives revealed on condition of anonymity, “My suggestion in the scheduled meeting will be that considering the performance of the footballers, only 10 percent of the existing senior footballers should be retained in the squad for the next season.” Additionally, Mehrajuddin Wadoo who is likely to continue as the team's senior team coach in the next season might even choose a couple of potential young footballers for the senior team next year.
The under-21 Mohammedan Sporting has been showing quite impressive performance in the ongoing Reliance Youth Football League, placing itself within the top three with East Bengal and Mohun Bagan in the ongoing qualifier. Two teams will qualify for the next round of the competition.
This apart, the club’s top brass is set to take the decision not to take part in any knock-out competition before the I-League next year. A senior club executive revealed on condition of anonymity, “We made the blunder by participating in the knock-out tournament in Odisha, held a couple of days before the I-League. We had to take part in the tournament following a request from AIFF and some of our crucial footballers got injured while playing in that tournament. We had to pay for it throughout the rest of the season.”
In a bid to strengthen our pre-season training for the I-League next season, the senior team is unlikely to participate in any knock-out tournament before the next I-League.
