Mohammedan Sporting waits for consent from an international investor

The club’s top brass is trying to rope in a ‘star’ Latin American striker who has not yet participated in Indian football.

Even though the celebration is on after the historic I-League triumph and qualification for the ISL Mohammedan Sporting top brass does not seem to have floated in the stream.

In a bid to build up a solid team that can compete in the ISL, initiatives are already being taken to involve a big corporate house with financial support.

It is believed that Mohammedan Sporting investor Bunkerhill Group which has automatically acquired 61 percent share of the club's football affairs is in talks with an international investor. It is also learned that considering the progress of the talks the agreement with the international investor might be signed by the end of this month.

The estimated budget which has been around Rs 12 crore for the I-league team in the last couple of years, can reach nearly Rs 45 crore to build up the team to compete in the ISL.

The club secretary Ishtiaque Ahmed could not be contacted for his reaction. But the club’s one of the vice-presidents Dipak Singh opined, "We want to stay in the ISL, establishing ourselves as one of the top teams. We will enter the country's premier league with the next three year's plans."

Eddie Hernandez, Mirjalol Kasimov, and Alexis Gomez, the three foreign footballers who played a crucial role in helping the Black-and-White brigade clinch the covetous I-league title are likely to be offered an extension of their contracts for one more season.

But the club’s top brass is trying to rope in a ‘star’ Latin American striker who has not yet participated in Indian football.

Simultaneously, a policy will also be maintained during the ISL where potential Indian footballers will be played. Singh explained, "We could have fielded our two foreign strikers regularly in the I-league matches. But David got the opportunity also, playing frequently along with Eddie and Alexis. Similarly, a potential Indian striker will also be getting an opportunity in the ISL along with a foreign striker."

David Lalhlansanga, the Mizoram striker scored only five goals and made two assists despite having played in 21 matches. However, David has reportedly signed a Pre-contract for East Bengal.

But Mohammedan Sporting top brass does not seem much concerned as they are expecting Lalrinzuala Lalbiknia, who surpassed Sunil Chhetri and Rafiq’s record by scoring 15 goals in 20 I-league matches this season will finally join the team.

However, Mohammedan Sporting’s concluding I-League match against Delhi FC, scheduled on 13th April, is likely to be staged at the Salt Lake Stadium.

The club although has not decided its home-match venue for the ISL. But during the meeting with FSDL, the club may propose the Kalyani Stadium as the team’s home-match venue.
