Mohun Bagan Felicitates Santosh Trophy Winners; Focus Shifts to Nurturing Local Talent

Debashis Dutta, the MBSG General Secretary, made a striking statement during the event, saying, “If the IFA decides to field an all-Bengali roster for the I-League, that will be the day Mohun Bagan starts taking the CFL seriously.”

Following Saturday's heated AGM, Mohun Bagan hosted a felicitation ceremony for Bengal's Santosh Trophy-winning team, awarding them ₹5.5 lakh.

Mohun Bagan felicitated the Santosh Trophy Champions on Saturday in a grand event graced by several eminent personalities, including IFA Secretary Anirban Dutta, legendary footballer Sabbir Ali, and others. The occasion was made more special with the presence of the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Aroop Biswas, who attended as the chief guest.

Biswas urged the club to nurture local talent and prioritise the Kolkata League.

Aroop Biswas praised MBSG's fight for the ISL championship, calling it a matter of pride for Bengal but questioned the lack of local players in the squad. “Apart from Captain Subhasish Bose and Divyendu Biswas, how many Bengali players are there in a ₹70-80 crore team?” he asked. He encouraged the club to treat the Kolkata League with the same importance as ISL, emphasising, “Why is Mohun Bagan ranked fifth in the Kolkata League? Resolve issues with the IFA and aim to win every tournament."

Coach Sanjay Sen reflected on his remarkable career and the challenges he faced along the way. Speaking with pride, he stated, “They are like my sons. When I entrusted Nar Hari, many doubted my decision, but I paid no heed. Now look at him—he has become one of the most remarkable players. Similarly, Sourav Das, another of my students, is shining at Jamshedpur FC and recently delivered an excellent performance. I feel like a proud father.”
