Mohun Bagan wins hockey 'derby', raised questions on security arrangement

East Bengal raised questions on security arrangement for allowing Mohun Bagan fans to enter the stadium

After having tamed arch-rivals East Bengal in the Indian Super league this season, Mohun Bagan won the 'derby' in the ongoing Calcutta Hockey Premier League, registering a 2-1 victory on Thursday at the Mohammedan Sporting ground.

The derby that was deferred due to violence between the fans of both the clubs on the scheduled day on 19th February at the same ground started closed-door at the Mohammedan Sporting ground although a few Mohun Bagan fans were seen entering and watching the match. The angry East Bengal club officials who were present at the ground raised questions over the biased security system that did not allow East Bengal supporters to enter the ground on the day.

However, the match resumed with the previous score of 1-0 in Mohun Bagan's favor although East Bengal got the equalizer at the beginning of the match. Mohun Bagan finally had the last laugh when Rajin scored the winner for the green-and-maroon brigade.

Mohun Bagan coach Iqbal commented, "I am happy with the team's performance. I am optimistic about the team's performance in the upcoming matches as we have a few international players also. But the players would have exhibited better show if the fans were allowed to watch the match today."
