Motivator Mrinal Chakrabarty's class will strengthen Bengal girls, hopes coach

The purpose was to come out of 13 years' drought as the women's Bengal team played the final of the senior national championship last in 2010-11.

This was probably the first time the Bengal women's football team received some noticeable services they deserved as the men footballers are given before any crucial competition.

Before starting their campaign in the senior national women’s championship group league encounters against Punjab on 1st May, Bengal women had a quality ground for training like Salt Lake Stadium or the AIFF's center of excellence ground in New Town. The footballers obtained the opportunity to stay at a hotel in Rajarhat with deserving lodging and food during the training.

Significantly, for the first time, renowned mental toughness coach Mrinal Chakrabarty was invited to have a one-and-half-hour workshop with the women footballers thanks to the IFA especially to the coach Dipankar Biswas and goalkeeping coach Utpal Mukherjee for their persuasion with the IFA to provide all these services for the footballers.

The purpose was to come out of 13 years' drought as the women's Bengal team played the final of the senior national championship last in 2010-11. They were champions in the senior national championship last in 1996-97.

"I heard these girls crashed out of the competition in penalty shoot-out despite leading. It means they were failing to win the battle of nerves in tough situations. You need three aspects to win a battle, technical skill, physical fitness, and mental strength. The mind game should already be played well before. So I taught them to visualise closing eyes," stated Chakrabarty.

Chakrabarty who has experience working with several Indian internationals as well as with the national hockey team, Indian archery team, and Indian table tennis team also motivated the women footballers asserting, “The chances of winning a battle become bright only when you know your strength and your opposition’s strength also."

He continued, "Otherwise, if you know about your strength and are unaware of your opposition then your chances of winning battle diminish. This is a famous proverb used in Chinese education on building mental strength.”

Coach Dipankar Biswas sounded optimistic when asked about the preparation. He revealed, “IFA has done as much as possible. The 20-day training was also intense. The girls have been provided with the facilities. Quality footballers like Sangita Bashfore, Sulanjana Raul, Rimpa Halder, Moushumi Murmu, Sujata Mahata, and Dular Marandi have strengthened the team along with other promising footballers I am hopeful about the performance."

In the final round of the senior national women's championship Bengal is grouped with Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Delhi, Railways, and Chandigarh.
