
Back to back late goals from Stewart and Diaz seals Mumbai City's win
Mumbai City FC defeated debutants Punjab FC 2-1 in the ongoing ISL season at Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday.
The first half of the clash was full of actions from both sides. The home side created numerous chances but were unable to put the ball in due to the amazing Punjab defense. However, the visitors took the lead at the 38th minute of the game as their captain Luka Majcen, through excellent dribbling went past the defenders and put the ball straight in the bottom left corner of the net.
Punjab FC started the second half with gusto and created multiple chances while also showing off their splendid defenses. Mumbai City FC were desperate for an equaliser and were constantly in the offensive. Greg Stewart finally scored the much anticipated equaliser in the 82nd minute of the game as he took a long shot outside the box. A few seconds later, Jorge Pererya Diaz made another quick goal which increased the lead and sealed the victory for Mumbai City FC.
Punjab FC'S Greek defender Dimitris recieved the second yellow card and was sent off in the last minutes of the game. Mumbai City FC held on to the scoreline and clinched the win for themselves at full time.
With this win, Mumbai grabs the second spot of the league table with 11 points in 5 games. Meanwhile Punjab FC is eleventh with two points from six.
