It was sweet revenge for Neroca as they lost to Rajasthan United both the times in the I-league encounter.
Manjeri Payyanad Stadium witnessed a thrilling encounter on Tuesday between two I-league sides, Neroca FC and Rajasthan United, in the qualifying playoff match of the Super CUP. Neroca won by 3-1 via penalty shootout after the game was deadlocked 2 - 2 in the stipulated 90 minutes and 30 minutes of additional time.
Both the teams fielded an all-Indian side keeping their foreigners out. Neroca was trailing 1 – 2 until deep in the extra time when they managed to equalize. It was sweet revenge for Neroca as they lost to Rajasthan United both the times in the I-league encounter.
Neroca drew the first blood seconds before the half time when Rajasthan goalkeeper Vishal Joon spilled the ball in the box and Lunminlen Haokip happily accepted the opportunity and tapped the ball in. In the 65th minute substitute, Lourembam David Singh brought the equalizer by heading a low cross from the right. In the dying moment, Lourembam missed an open opportunity when the goal mouth was open in front of him but Jagdeep Singh of Rajasthan made a goal-line clearance.
In the 98th minute, Laremsanga nodded a ball giving Rajastha a lead. Neroca tried to hit back but defender Lallenmang was given marching order following an unfair tackle. Neroca was down to 10 men for the last eight minutes. However, Sweden Fernandes equalized again and the match went to a shootout.
In the shootout, Neroca replaced their goalkeeper Subham Das with Soram Poerei who made three saves in the shootout. Only William Paulliankhum scored the only goal for Rajasthan in the shootout and Sweden Fernandes, Singson, and Jonychand Singh converted for Neroca to mark their win
