‘no drums, smoke candles’; Guidelines Set by the Kolkata Police for Durand’s Semi-Final

This notice was declared because of the ongoing unrest and protests in Kolkata surrounding the rape and murder of a doctor at the R G Kar Hospital.

The Durand Cup’s semi-final between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Bengaluru FC was scheduled to happen in the Salt Lake Stadium. However,  the Kolkata Police barricaded the spectators from bringing some specific items to the stadium.

This notice was declared because of the ongoing unrest and protests in Kolkata surrounding the rape and murder of a doctor at the R G Kar Hospital. Previously the derby was cancelled, between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in Kolkata citing a lack of administrative power.

The officials signed a notice detailing - "...This is to request you to convey through your authority to the contesting teams i.e. the Mohun Bagan Super Giants and the Bengaluru FC that no Tifo or drums, smoke candles or other inflammable materials will be allowed inside the stadium during the said match,"  by the joint commissioner of police, Bidhannagar.

The Kolkata Police further anticipated cooperation from the fans to follow these guidelines.

"We anticipate positive cooperation from your side and also from the end of the concerned teams (MBSG and Bengaluru FC) in this regard, in the interest of ensuring a smooth and enjoyable semifinal match on the 27th August," the KP announced through the notice.

The Green Maroo Brigade will play against Bengaluru FC for the second semi-finals of Durand. Northeast United FC won against Shillong Lajong 3-0, in the first semifinal and secured a place for the final match of the Durand Cup.
