No Shubman Gill in the T-20I series against Bangladesh; Ishan Kishan also likely to replace Pant

After the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on 19th September in Chennai, India will face the Asian side in three T-20Is, which are scheduled to be held at Gwalior (7th October), Delhi (10th October), and Hyderabad (13th October).

Star Indian opening batter Shubman Gill is all set to be rested for the three-match T-20I series against Bangladesh in October. Gill also missed out on a place in India’s T-20 World Cup 2024. After the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on 19th September in Chennai, India will face the Asian side in three T-20Is, which are scheduled to be held at Gwalior (7th October), Delhi (10th October), and Hyderabad (13th October).

According to a report published by PTI on Sunday, keeping in mind the busy season ahead, which includes a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home and a five-match Test series against Australia (away), Gill and a few more important players are all set to be rested for the shortest-format series.

“Yes, Shubman will be rested for the Bangladesh T-20I series. If you look at the fixture, the three T-20I series is going to be over on 13th October and the first Test against New Zealand is scheduled to commence on 16th October. So with a turnaround of three days, it is important to give Gill a break,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

It has been reported that most of the Test team players are unlikely to play against Bangladesh. Even, the pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will also be given rest as per workload management requirements.

Interestingly, Rishabh Pant is also going to be rested for the three-match series. Former India U-19 captain Ishan Kishan could replace him. Ishan, who played in the first two matches of the ODI World Cup for India last year, made a stunning comeback for India C in the ongoing Duleep Trophy match against India B in Anantapur by scoring a century in the first innings.
