The High-Performance center on tennis will consist of seven synthetic courts, one center court, and four clay courts.
Tennis in Odisha is also gearing up like badminton, hockey, football, and athletics. The world-class infrastructure at the premises of Kalinga Stadium is all set to take off within a month.
The High-Performance center on tennis will consist of seven synthetic courts, one center court, and four clay courts. Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) although staged ITF in 2018, has already been allotted the Asian under-14 finals for the first time, scheduled to be held from 2nd to 14th April by the All India Tennis Association (AITA).
One of the OTA executives revealed on condition of anonymity, "The High-Performance Tennis center is likely to be inaugurated by the state Chief Minister, Nabin Patnaik before the Asian under-14 championship." Plans are also there to involve anyone from the Indian tennis legends either Sania Mirza or Mahesh Bhupati for the academy.
The OTA executive however informed, "We have around six coaches. But they need to earn more qualifications. We have plans to organize a coaches' education program course after 15th April where one instructor from abroad might come and make our coaches more qualified."
Incidentally, Odisha has earned two gold medals in the doubles event of Khelo India Youth Tennis completion last year through the pair of Aradhya Verma and Sohini Mohanty. Aahan Nayak has already been a tennis star in Odisha after she became a member of the Indian girls' team that won the bronze medal at the ITF Asia Girls under-12 competition in Kazakhstan last year.
