Pope became the first batter in 147 years of Test history to hit each of his first seven centuries against different opponents.
Ollie Pope who succeeded injured Ben Stokes as the England skipper against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Test series marked a historic feat. Even it has not been possible for Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar to achieve.
With an unbeaten 103 at the Oval, Pope became the first batter in 147 years of Test history to hit each of his first seven centuries against different opponents.
He has scored centuries against South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, India, West Indies, and now Sri Lanka to achieve the unique feat. It was Pope's seventh century.
Sri Lanka, already 2-0 down in this three-match series, failed to make the most of overcast conditions and a green-tinged pitch after the captain Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss. However, England are settled with 221 for the loss of three wickets on the opening day.
