Once Messi’ teammate, Victor Vazquez replaces Borja Herrera in East Bengal

Vazquez, a product of renowned La Masia, was also a part of Barcelona's iconic young generation like Messi, Fabregras, and Pique.

One of the members of Barcelona’s iconic young generation like Messi, Fabregas, Xavi and Pique, Victor Vazquez has signed for East Bengal replacing the team’s dependable Spanish midfielder Borja Herrea for the remaining part of the ISL, resuming from 1st February. Vazquez the 37-year-old attacking midfielder who is currently a ‘free’ player after leaving Toronto FC in January, reportedly agreed to join the Red-and-Gold brigade on a short-term loan.

It is learned Borja Herrera is going to join FC Goa on loan from East Bengal, stepping in as a replacement for the injured midfielder Víctor Rodríguez. Rodríguez suffered a right leg injury during an ISL match against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in late December, prompting FC Goa to seek a capable replacement for the influential player.

Vazquez, a product of Barcelona’s renowned La Masia, was also a part of the iconic class of the 1987 team, playing alongside future first-team players Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi, and Gerard Pique. He was even considered the best player of the youth team.

Pep Guardiola called him for the team's pre-season in the following campaign where he appeared in three official matches, but none in the domestic league.

East Bengal, the reigning Super Cup champions, has reportedly agreed to a short-term loan move for the Spanish midfielder.

However, Javier Siverio, the East Bengal striker seems cautious looking forward to the team’s forthcoming engagements, especially the derby against Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) in the ISL on 3rd February. He commented, “Our focus now should be on the ISL. We should not lose our focus amidst the celebration.”
