Pakistan's total is the second worst in the history of Women's T-20 World Cups.
It could be called an 'unprecedented' match in recent times. Pakistan dropped eight catches in their all-important concluding group league match against New Zealand in the T-20 Women's World Cup on Monday! The reflection was clear. Dropping eight catches and failing to succeed even a couple of run-out probabilities guided New Zealand to register a 54-run win and eliminate the Indian women's team from the ongoing T-20 Women's World Cup!
New Zealand's innings ended in 110, losing six wickets in 20 overs, thanks to Pakistan's fielding, which witnessed eight regulation catches! Pakistan's Fatima Sana herself dropped as many as four catches, most of them regulation, as the Kiwis continued to ride their luck.
While chasing the target of 111 runs, Pakistan barely managed to control their opponents' bowling, with some poor shot selection and a rouge style of play which resulted them bowled out for 56 only.
The total is the second worst in the history of Women's T-20 World Cups.
Pakistan's former women's team captain Sana Mir was stunned to see the butterfingers her team displayed. She commented, "I have never seen this in 15 years of playing."
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana admitted in the post-match presentation ceremony that her team needs to improve fielding.
"We were good in the bowling but we need to improve our fielding and batting. We were not up to the mark in batting and the seniors need to step up in these kind of matches. As a bowling unit, we were up to the mark, but we need to improve in batting, otherwise we can't survive in women's cricket," she said.
Courtesy of New Zealand's win, both India and Pakistan were knocked out of the semi-final race.
