The Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan across three venues in February and March next year.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reaffirmed the board's firm stance on hosting the Champions Trophy. He further emphasised that Pakistan will not compromise on equality in cricket relations with India. Speaking at a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi stated, “Our position is very clear. It’s not acceptable for Pakistan to play in India if India doesn’t reciprocate by playing here.”
Naqvi assured that the PCB remains in constant communication with the ICC to ensure the best outcomes for Pakistan cricket. "I promise we’ll do what’s best for Pakistan cricket. We are in regular contact with the ICC chairman, and our team is actively discussing the matter. The principle of equality is non-negotiable," he added.
Naqvi also called on Jay Shah, who will transition from BCCI secretary to ICC chairman on Sunday, to prioritise the interests of the ICC in his new role. "As Jay Shah takes charge in December, I’m confident that once he moves from BCCI to ICC, he will focus on the ICC's best interests, and that is exactly what he should do. When anyone steps into such a role, they must consider the well-being of the organization they represent.”
The Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan across three venues in February and March next year. However, India, citing a lack of government approval, informed the ICC earlier this month that they would not be able to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
