The trophy will mark India’s first tour of Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks if India decides to go ahead with the visit.
With the India-Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan approaching, discussions are intensifying. Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that Indian fans interested in attending will be provided expedited visa services.
Naqvi affirmed, "We will reserve a special ticket for Indian fans and work towards implementing a fast-track visa policy." He also extended a special invitation to Indian supporters to visit Pakistan and watch the India-Pakistan match in Lahore.
As preparations for the Champions Trophy begin, there is ongoing debate about India’s participation in Pakistan. There were rumours about potential venues or relocating the tournament.
Previously, Pakistan has assured India of full security along with various facilities for the team. They also suggested that India could return home after each match if they had security concerns in Pakistan, though the BCCI was unlikely to agree. Meanwhile, former Pakistani players, including Wasim Akram, have urged India to play in Pakistan.
Akram, known as the "Sultan of Swing," stated, "From what I’ve read, I feel a positive atmosphere is developing between the Indian government and the BCCI. I read somewhere that India might play their matches in Lahore and possibly return home the same night. As long as India feels comfortable with this, I remain hopeful."
He added, "I believe if India comes (to Pakistan), it will be a huge boost for cricket and, of course, a great thing for Pakistan.”
The ICC Champions Trophy is set for February-March next year in Pakistan, but the schedule is not yet released and depends on India's decision about the tour. This tour will mark India’s first Pakistan tour since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Pakistan, however, is confident in hosting India, and they are taking actions to ensure the tour.
