PCB Turns Down ICC's Explanation over Champions Trophy Controversy

During the India vs. Bangladesh match, the broadcast feed showed an altered Champions Trophy 2025 logo. In Lahore, the Australia vs. England game saw the Indian national anthem mistakenly played. The ICC called it a playlist mix-up.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to lodge a protest with the International Cricket Council (ICC) for ignoring its CEO and Champions Trophy tournament director, Sumair Ahmed Syed. He was not invited on stage during the closing ceremony in Dubai. They claimed it was deliberate oversight.

A PCB source revealed that chairman Mohsin Naqvi was not satisfied with the ICC’s explanation.

"The ICC, apparently, has said it had prepared for Mohsin Naqvi to be on stage, so when he didn't show up for the final, they changed their plan," the source said. The PCB has rejected this reasoning. It claims the ICC made several mistakes regarding Pakistan’s role as host.

One such incident occurred during the India vs. Bangladesh match. The Champions Trophy 2025 logo was altered in the broadcast feed. Another happened in Lahore during the Australia vs. England game. The Indian national anthem mistakenly played for a few seconds. The ICC later blamed this on a playlist mix-up.

Despite these concerns, Naqvi praised everyone involved in hosting the tournament. "Your commitment and collective efforts ensured the seamless execution of the prestigious tournament," he said.

“Pakistan takes immense pride in hosting the Champions Trophy and making it a spectacle for cricket fans worldwide.”

The closing ceremony saw top officials in attendance. BCCI president Roger Binny handed white jackets to Indian players. ICC chairman Jay Shah presented the trophy to Rohit Sharma and distributed winners' medals. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and New Zealand Cricket’s CEO Roger Twose were also on stage.
