Pep Guardiola wants Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona during the final few years of his career. Barcelona did not extend their contract with Messi due to financial problems. As such the legendary footballer left the club in 2021 and joined PSG.

Messi is set to depart from PSG after the contract ends at the end of this season. Messi has two options open either to return to Barcelona or join the Saudi Pro League club. In an interview with ESPN Guardiola told that he hopes the Argentine to be back at Barcelona where he can get a memorable send-off. 

Guardiola, who has been associated with Messi for four years, said that he can understand why Messi left Barcelona in 2021. He still thinks that the Spanis Club's president Joan Laporta will do everything to bring back Messi.

Guardiola said to ESPN, "I am a Barcelona fan. I have my tickets and I just hope one day we can say goodbye to him as he deserves. 

He is the greatest player of all time." 

He further added saying that, in the last 12 years Barcelona has had a boom and that has been possible only for Messi. 

With Messi's father confirming that nothing has been finalized with any of the interested clubs, Barcelona fans may hope for a probable return of the legendary footballer who brought so much success in his 16-year career in the club.
