Prabir Mazumdar passed away

Former Bengal and Railway player Prabir Mazumdar passed away at 77.

 

Left back of the golden age of the East Bengal club, Prabir Mazumdar passed away this morning at 3.30 am at his Salt Lake residence. He was 77 years old. He left behind his wife, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

Prabir Mazumdar started his career in the 2nd division club. He was recruited to play for Eastern Railway in 1967. In 1970 he joined Mohun Bagan and played for two years. He switched to East Bengal Club in 1972 and played till 1973. In 1974 he had to join Eastern Railway. 

 

During his tenure in East Bengal, he won CFL, Durand, Rovers, DCM, and many other trophies. He was a member of the East Bengal team which won the Triple Crown. 

He represented Bengal and Railways in the Santosh trophy and was a member of the Indian team in the Tehran Asian Games in 1974. He was also appointed coach of East Bengal in 1981.

Following his demise, the East Bengal flag will remain half-mast as a mark of respect to the deceased footballer.
