Bardhan won gold medals in Asian Games, Asia Pacific, and World Championship also.
Pranab Bardhan, the gold medalist professional bridge international in Asian Games and Asian Pacific Championship, protesting against West Bengal Bridge Association has decided not to participate in any WBBA-conducted tournament.
In an interview, he told "I won a gold medal in the 2016 Asia Pacific and 2018 Asian Games. I have also brought gold to the country from Jakarta representing the World Championship along with Asia Cup gold both in 2022. I have been felicitated and honored by every state. Even, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated me personally for winning the Asian Games gold. Still, I have not received recognition from my state. So it is my protest to boycott WBBA-organized tournaments. The current body is a farce. I will only think of participating in a WBBA-organized tournament if the existing administration is changed ever."
Pranab added due to the lackluster attitude of the present body there is no future for bridge in Bengal, the state which produced countless great players for India. However, Bardhan added that he has not decided yet to join the upcoming academy of Sibnath Dey Sarkar as a teacher.
Pranab Bardhan, now 65 years old, initially got encouragement to play Bridge from his father. He started his career in 1975 through auction bridge. Shifted to contract bridge in 1998 under the guidance of Khokonda ( Debasish Guha ) and started his professional career in 2000.
Besides winning several State and National level trophies he has won many International medals. As a professional player, he now earns Rs 5 lakhs approximately in a year. His only daughter Dr. Pratirupa Bardhan is settled in Germany and engaged in research work on Oceanography.
