Ankur Bhattacharya, the prodigious paddler from Bengal regrets for the lack of incentives from state
With two titles in the zonal ranking tournaments and an inspiring defeat in the men's semi-final prodigious Ankur Bhattacharya conquered Bhopal, securing an individual gold medal in the Khelo India Table Tennis championship on Friday.
While speaking over the phone from Bhopal the 16-year-old paddler commented, "defeating Zubin Kumar and Anirban Ghosh in the men's individual event in the zonal ranking tournament was the most memorable matches I played and if you talk about the most memorable words, I must mention Kamlesh Mehta's name, the legendary former India international as his words gave me the boost to exhibit the best performance in future. Kamlesh told me he likes my game."
However, at the same time, Ankur lamented stating that his state has not yet announced any cash incentive for him despite having won the gold medal. Ankur's father Anshuman Bhattacharya who was a professional table tennis player and the coach of Ankur said, "All other states have already declared Rs 5 lakh for the gold medal winner, Rs 3 lakh for the runner-up and Rs 2 lakh for the bronze medal winner in the Khelo India Games. Ankur has not received anything even after becoming runner-up in the Khelo India championship last year."
