Questions arise on ‘banned’ Deepak Sharma’s involvement in the invitational women’s football in Khad, AIFF waits for HPFA intimation

The competition is named after the Late MP Sharma who was the father of Deepak Sharma and according to local media one of the organizers of the competition is Deepak Sharma.

Khad village, Una in Himachal Pradesh is witnessing an invitational women's football competition. Seven teams from different states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh are participating in the competition.

The competition is named after the Late MP Sharma who was the father of Deepak Sharma and according to local media one of the organizers of the competition is Deepak Sharma.

Sharma is already suspended by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for four years after he was alleged to have made a physical assault on two women footballers during the qualifiers of the Indian Women's League (IWL) last year in Goa.

Questions have already arisen about how the banned Sharma, a former AIFF executive committee member got involved in organizing this competition.

Significantly, the brother of Deepak Sharma, Sujit Sharma when asked about the matter, replied over the phone, "Deepak Sharma is not at all involved in organizing this competition. The family including his wife is the organizer. He is watching the matches sitting on the stands only."

However, the AIFF secretariat, aware of the fact is waiting for an official intimation from Himachal Pradesh Football Association (HPFA) about the issue. Once AIFF receives the intimation, they will investigate the matter. “He cannot be involved in conducting the competition as he is suspended. Let HPFA inform us about his status in the competition. Then we will look into the matter,” an AIFF executive committee member revealed on condition of anonymity.
