The off-spinner also closed in on Harbhajan Singh's tally of wickets in international cricket.
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin ran through the West Indies batting line-up on Friday, 14 July in Dominica. Ashwin picked up 7 wickets in the second innings of the game, picking up a total of 12 wickets in the game helping India to defeat West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first Test match of the series.
Ashwin equalled legendary Anil Kumble's record for the most 10-wicket hauls by an Indian in Test cricket. Ashwin's 8th 10-wicket haul solidifies his status as one of the finest spinners in the history of Indian cricket.
Ashwin earned several achievements in this match. The off-spinner also closed in on Harbhajan Singh's tally of wickets in international cricket.
As of now, Ashwin has taken a staggering 709 wickets across all formats, making him only the 16th player in the history of cricket to achieve more than 700 international wickets. Harbhajan Singh has 711 to his name and is likely to be surpassed by Ashwin in the next Test match.
Ashwin also became the first India bowler to complete separate 5-wicket hauls in each innings of a Test match against West Indies away from home. Ashwin now has six 5-wicket hauls against Windies, the most by any Indian bowler.
