R. Ashwin on the verge of achieving numerous records in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand

Ashwin has an opportunity to become the first bowler in World Test Championship history to reach the coveted milestone of 200 wickets.

R. Ashwin is on the brink of breaking 5 different WTC records in the upcoming New Zealand vs India test series. A record held by Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne could be broken. The test series will begin on 16th October. 

The highest wicket-taker in the history of the World Test Championship R. Ashwin currently holds the second position with 185 wickets. Australia's Nathan Lyon is currently in the top spot with 187 wickets. The Indian spinner will move to the top position if he can take 3 more wickets.

If the lanky off-spinner R. Ashwin manages to claim 15 wickets in the upcoming 3 Tests against New Zealand, he will scribe his name into the record books with a remarkable achievement. Ashwin will become the first bowler in World Test Championship history to reach the coveted milestone of 200 wickets, solidifying his legacy as one of cricket’s finest spinners.

He also shares the second spot with Shane Warne for the maximum number of five-wicket hauls in Test cricket, with both having achieved this remarkable feat 37 times. With just one more five-wicket haul, Ashwin will claim the top spot outright.

This apart he is also on the verge of making history on Indian soil. With 466 wickets across all formats, he is just 11 wickets away from surpassing Anil Kumble's record of 476 wickets. Once achieved, Ashwin will claim the top spot as the highest wicket-taker among the Indian bowlers. 

R. Ashwin can also surpass Muttiah Muralitharan in achieving a maximum number of for the most 'Man of the Series’ awards. Placed in the top position jointly with Sri Lankan legend currently with 11 times Ashwin can earn the position of number one spot by acquiring one ‘man-of-the-series award against New Zealand in the coming series.
