Rachin Ravindra won the Player of the Match in New Zealand’s first Test victory against India at Chinnaswami Stadium, Bangalore on Sunday. He scored 134 and an unbeaten 39, helping New Zealand to register an eight-wicket victory after 36 years on Indian soil.
Commenting on his performance, the batsman gave huge credit to Chennai Super Kings High-Performance Centre where he took special preparation before the series against Sri Lanka and India on their pitches respectively under the eyes of coach Sriram Krishnamurthy, who was also his coach during the youngster's formative years at Wellington.
He explained, “Preparation does help. When you have got six Tests in a row you are always looking to do something extra. Luckily enough it all worked out today. I was trying to get a read of different surfaces, red roil and black soil, and seeing what sort of guard I could stand on for different kinds of bowlers. I am also grateful to the net bowlers who helped me a lot to understand the characters of the pitches and the different types of bowlers I would have to face. It was an invaluable experience for me.”
Rachin also explained while playing at Chinnaswami patience was one of his key strengths that clicked in both the innings. He stated, “Having the choice of being able to move forward and back, I was not trying to take the attack to them but taking care of my position which is important in this part of the world. I tried to maintain my position before going for strokes.”
