Rahul desires to contribute to his childhood club, follows Chhetri's words to train 'scoring practice' alone

But Rahul has another aim. That is to establish himself as a professional footballer.

Rahul Paswan has already earned prominence after his second goal against Mohammedan Sporting on Saturday, a piercing header from the right of an accurate floater from Tuhin Sarkar from the left.

Still, he does not seem content. Rather the 25-year-old striker, who has already been one of the reliable footballers of Diamond Harbor FC, emphasized commenting, "I was with East Bengal in one ISL (2021-22). I played the match against Kerala Blasters only. But I had one of the biggest gains from that ISL. That was a few words from my idol in Indian football, Sunil Chhetri. He advised me to enhance my self-belief. Otherwise, confidence will not grow, and training harder is the only way to increase self-belief."

Rahul likes to call him a 'box striker' and that is the reason he gives ample time in scoring practice. "The main job of a box striker is to score. I train alone for hours even after the end of my team's training, do scoring practice. Even if I do not get any of my teammates, I do shooting practice and unleash headers from an acute angle which I executed in the match against Mohammedan Sporting. Sometimes, our assistant coach, Deepak Mondal sends the floaters from the flanks and I practice heading. Sometimes, I call the junior goalkeeper of our team and ask him to stand under the bars, I do shooting practice," said Rahul.

Rahul used to play cricket in his childhood. He shifted to football also in his childhood and learned the basics of the game under coach Bulbul Majhi at Satghara Vivekananda Sporting Club, quite distant from his home. He goes to the club today whenever he is at home, trains under Majhi and there also his training is mainly 'scoring practice'.

Rahul's father works on a dairy farm. Along with his mother, he has two brothers. The financial struggle which was harsh in Rahul's early days has reduced after Rahul started earning from football. Still, the striker has the desire to pay back to his first football school Satghara Vivekananda Sporting Club.

Rahul said, "I obtained jerseys and balls when I was with East Bengal. Then also, whenever, I obtained kits and balls while playing for Mohammedan Sporting I gave them all to the young footballers of my childhood club. I have a desire to help the club financially if my earning increases in the near future."

Like all other promising footballers, Rahul also aims at representing India and play for an ISL team consistently. But he has another aim. That is to establish himself as a professional footballer.
