Rahul Dravid's direct view of WTC final preparations: "Never going to be happy"

India last won an ICC championship in 2013, defeating England in the Champions Trophy final.

India lost to Australia in the World Test Championship final on Sunday at The Oval, prolonging their wait for their next ICC title. With seven wickets still remaining on the 5th Day, Team India needed 280 runs to win, but they were bowled out for 234 runs in the opening session, giving Australia a 209-run victory.

Australia became the first team to win all four ICC championships with this victory. As their batting order failed to produce on the same pitch where Australian batsmen had set a lofty goal of 444, it was again another misery for India.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, expressed dissatisfaction with his duties after the loss and said that things would have gone differently if they had had three weeks to practice.

While speaking to Star Sports Dravid explained, "It is not at all the matter of being satisfactory with the coaching preparation (is there enough time for it?). But that is the situation we find ourselves in. It would be excellent to go here three weeks ahead and play practice matches. However, we must get by with what we have."

The former Indian skipper who was called 'The Wall' especially amidst the crisis, added, "We did not play our best cricket." He was also not happy with Indian bowers commenting, "The Oval was not a "469 pitch. Too many were given away in the previous session (on Day 1). We were aware of the lines and lengths to bowl on. Although we bowled a little too wide, our lengths weren't too horrible gave the head room. Maybe we could have been more cautious with some of the strokes we made."

When asked whether decision of electing to field was right Dravid claimed, "The wicket had a lot of grass on it, and it was overcast. As observed in England, batting is becoming simpler. If you witnessed, support was sparse on 4th and 5th Day. We had them on 70/3, but we allowed it to slip away," he said. Notably, India last won an ICC championship in 2013, defeating England in the Champions Trophy final.
