Raja is upset with the loss in his first 'derby; Still cherishes playing against his favourite goalkeeper

Mohun Bagan would have conceded more goals had Raja not made a couple of brilliant saves in the second half.

United Sports Club has been a 'factory' of producing potential footballers for Bengal as well as India for a long time. In its continuous process, the club has produced several promising footballers. Custodian Raja Barman is one of them.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper who joined Mohun Bagan this season on a loan from Central Railway Jabalpur is naturally upset with the 1-2 loss in his first ‘derby’ against East Bengal on Saturday.

Still, he seems to have gained something ‘special’ from his maiden ‘derby'. That is playing against one of the favourite goalkeepers Debjit Majumder. Raja has been watching Debjit since his early days and it was special to him when he saw Debjit Majumder standing under the bars wearing a Red-and-Gold jersey. He has not yet obtained an opportunity to meet Debjit which he wants to in the future.

Mohun Bagan would have conceded more goals had Raja not made a couple of brilliant saves in the second half. He is aware of his team’s poor start in the ongoing CFL Premier Division, garnering only two points in three matches.

Still, the goalkeeper seems to have the belief that Mohun Bagan will be bouncing back and ensure a berth in the 'Super–Six' round of the Premier Division.

Even though Mohun Bagan looked poor in their defensive organization which created ultimate pressure on the goalkeeper, Raja seems positive on the last 15 minutes' performance Bagan dished out in the match. The resistance would have been stronger and Mohun Bagan even could have won the match if they could have maintained the flow of counter attacks they did in the last 15 minutes.

Raja has another desire. Football is not at all popular in Jabalpur. Still, Raja, Subrata Murmu, and Dipak Rajjak-all from United Sports and employees of Central Railway at Jabalpur practice at their Railway campus ground a few young local boys join them in the practice. Raja wants to teach goalkeeping if any of them wants to become goalkeeper in the future.

The goalkeeper who has mainly been roped in by Mohun Bagan for the ongoing CFL Premier Division aims for a consistent show in the League to find a place in the team for the ISL this season.
