Raman feels this MBSG is looking similarly strong like the team of Bareto, Igor and Stephen in 1999-2000 NFL.
Raman Vijayan, the assistant coach of Chennaiyin FC is looking at Rafael Crivellaro’s performance against Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday. Chennaiyin FC which is languishing at the 11th spot with 18 points from 18 matches, lost 3-1 to MBSG in their home match of the ongoing ISL.
The 51-year-old former India international however feels they lacked in scoring consistently. He explained, “that Brazilian midfielder, Rafael is a player who changes the complexion of the game at times. I do not know whether he will start against Mohun Bagan tomorrow. Still, he is the only man whose defense-splitting passes can bring the match in our favour.”
But at the same time, he added, "We have to score. This has been our one key difficulty in the ISL this season. The two strikers, Connor Shields (Scotland) and Jordan Murray (Australia) have to be consistent in scoring."
Commenting on MBSG’s consistency and dominance over the respective oppositions in the ongoing ISL, Raman termed Antonio Lopez Habas as the 'unsung hero' of MBSG.
Raman explained stating, "The Spanish coach has huge experience of guiding the boys in the ISL. The second and most important aspect is that his man-management skill is supreme. That is why everybody on the team is looking dangerous. Anybody can change the complexion of the game and score."
Raman said, "The Mohun Bagan under the guidance of Habas is looking similarly strong like the Green-and-Maroon brigade with Bareto, Igor Shkyrin, and Stephen Abarowei in 1999-2000 when I-League was National Football League.”
