Raman now 51 has been in coaching for a long time, running his football academies, Noble Football Academy, and later Raman Vijayan Soccer School for the last 10 years.
Raman is his father’s name. Before earning the repute as Raman Vijayan, his performance did get the deserving appreciation. The reason was IM Viayan!
The country's one of the finest strikers was at the helm of affairs at that time and playing alongside IM Vijayan for Indian Bank in 1996, Raman’s performance was not being highlighted despite having exhibited consistent performance, both for the club and the national team.
During this period following advice from Malayalam Hindu, a popular newspaper, his father’s name Raman was added before Vijayan and then Raman Vijayan established his identity in the country’s football fraternity.
Raman now 51 has been in coaching for a long time, running his football academies, Noble Football Academy, and later Raman Vijayan Soccer School for the last 10 years. Shivashakti Narayanan and Mayakkanna, both footballers have also been established in the ISL.
But the former India international does not seem to be sticking with his football school only. He is nurturing a dream project. He is set to introduce a ‘special school’ where general education will not be an obstruction to the development of a potential sports kid. Rather it will work as a mental boost for the potential young boy.

While speaking from Chennai over the phone Raman explained, “The curriculums at schools and colleges in our country are designed in such a way where the sports-passionate boys and girls cannot get adequate time for training.”
"They are forced to toil hard to achieve marks. The mark sheets can help to some extent in building a career. But ultimately, he or she needs to learn and master the skill which will settle his or her career.”
Raman wants to design the education syllabus in a way where a boy, passionate about sports will be offered the infrastructural elements to learn and master the skill according to his desire and potential. “It will be a centre of excellence actually where syllabus will be like National Institute of Open Studies. You do not need to go to school regularly.”
He continued, "You can choose subjects according to your desire and directly sit for the 10th or 12th standard of examination. Simultaneously, the boys will be taught life skills. That might also be according to his desire. Someone might choose games, someone might opt for yoga, adventure sports.”
Raman has already obtained land near Tiruchirapalli which is a hilly region. “The students can also take part in high-altitude training if they wish,” added Raman.
