The former Indian international striker Raman Vijayan is once again back in ISL. He has been appointed as the assistant coach of Chennaiyin FC for the coming season. He has already experience of working as an assistant coach of Delhi Dynamos in 2015.
Chennaiyin FC had a poor show in the recently-concluded ISL, finishing in the eighth spot with only 27 points in 20 matches. The team is going to take part in three preparatory matches in Kolkata in the first week of April, looking towards a revived performance in the forthcoming Super Cup.
Raman while explaining the team's failure and revival said, "I have already watched the players in last week's training session. From what I observed, the foreign footballers who regularly played failed to deliver their best mainly due to injury. Peter Sliskovic, the key striker is now gradually recovering from injury. Fallou Diagne, the stopper also failed to produce the best of his ability as he also got injured. If you go through the statistics it will show that Chennaiyin FC conceded 36 goals in the league this season."
Simultaneously, Raman hinted that Indian footballers in the team failed to perform as they lacked confidence. We have a lot of potential and experienced footballers. I am trying to help them regain confidence. I am actually trying to work as a bridge between the German coach, Thomas Brdaric in the team. It becomes easy for any experienced Indian coach to read the psychological part of Indian footballers in the team."
Raman emphasized saying, "I believe the team will bounce back in the Super Cup. Even I will not be surprised if we become champion in Super Cup."
