Real-Atletico match marred by violence; Simeone fumed at the club fans

Atletico Madrid players and staff, including Jose Maria Gimenez, Koke, and manager Diego Simeone, approached the fans, urging them to stop littering the field.

The La Liga match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid was marred by violence on Sunday at Wanda Metropolitano. After Atletico fans started throwing objects onto the ground following Real Madrid’s lead of 1-0, the referee had to stop the match.

The game was suspended for around 20 minutes. Shortly after Eder Militao’s 64th-minute strike which gave the visitors a lead the home crowd started throwing lighters and others towards Real Madrid's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Courtois was seen tossing the objects out of the field until the referee in charge, Mateo Busquets Ferrer halted the match in the 69th minute.

Announcements echoed through the Wanda Metropolitano, urging fans to refrain from further disruptions, while in-stadium screens displayed warnings to restore order to the match.

Atletico Madrid players and staff, including Jose Maria Gimenez, Koke, and manager Diego Simeone, approached the fans, urging them to stop littering the field. Simeone gestured toward his head, signaling for supporters to think before further disrupting the game.

The match restarted and Angel Correa scored the equaliser for Atletico Madrid in the 5th minute of stoppage time. The match finally led to a draw of 1-1.

La Liga took to their social media and wrote a statement condemning this behaviour - "Zero tolerance for any act of violence inside or outside our stadiums,”.

Athletico's legendary footballer Diego Simeone blasted stating "I do not need these people who are against the spirit of the game".
